Devin "The Poet" & Gabriel Royal Team Up

Simple as the headline reads Devin "The Poet" & Gabriel Royal team up for a midwest tour starting in Corraville, Iowa. A little bit of info on the two Gabriel Royal also known as Gabe Royal. Gabriel was born in Tulsa Oklahoma. He moved to New York in 2010 and has been pioneering his sound. You may have seen him playing his cello at the Metropolitan Ave. stop in the subway while waiting for the G train. He continues his music for the love of it, but soon, someone with recognize him for his efforts and talents. 

While Devin on the other side of the coin hails from the planet of Brooklyn. When it comes to the SLAM POETRY SCENE, Devin "The Poet" is a force to be reckoned with. He is one of the youngest poets to win a spot on the historical Nuyorican Poets Cafe slam team. He is New York Knicks 2006 Slam Champion, Urban World NYC 2006 Slam Finalist.  

Having taking a break from slam since then "The Poet" has pursued his other passions in business and teaching.  The business side is the creation of the Reckless Takeover Tour which is a college touring group that has done over 60 shows in the 5 years of its existence.  The teaching side has called Devin to work at The School at Columbia as the Middle School Clubs Coordinator. With that said his passion for poetry remains strong.  He will be collaborating with a Internationally Touring Cellist in Gabriel Royal and the paring of the two should prove to be ground breaking and moving. 




He and Devin worked in a Summer program called "Wingspan Arts" in the Bronx leading workshops and teaching classes in their respective specialties to middle school aged students.  The road wasn't easy yet the students seemed to gravitate towards the two artist;  Devin describes it as "Real respects real".

Forever Alive Through the Music and in Our Hearts

These days it seems hard to find a singer that can really express a story through lyrics and give such dynamical thrust to any beat better than Aaliyah Dana Haughton. She is hitting you with the elements. Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Spirit, Notes, Articulation, Rhythm, Tone, Phrasing, Space... Everything.

Like picture a beat moving in time and at any give moment a singer could lay back on the beat or maybe just sing right in the middle of the beat or maybe give the melody a sense of urgency but singing a little ahead. All of these are effective tools to create certain vibes. Some people only hit you with one of those approaches, she hits you with total command of all three. Not many people can do that. Quincy Jones said that's what was special about Sinatra. Hey, greatness is greatness.

One thing that I am really missing from current R & B or pop singers both male and female, is that ability to sing with just the appropriate amount of vibrato and that naturally warm yet brilliant quality of tone. 
Most singers, they always gotta go G.O.A.T. ;(  

Not Aaliyah. Not ever.

Every note she sings is gold. One of favorite moments are 2:24 in "One in a

Million." Just pure hotness for for example. No one can argue that she is anything but pure heaven to one's ears. Listening to her, It's almost like getting an inner ear massage. Just millions of little atomic Aaliyah vibrations singing to your cilia to life.

 Just how she rides the beat is extremely fly. Revisit "Rock the Boat," it's just so sick. Her ad libs on there are what I'm talking about.

It also must be noted that for for all of the light and beauty that she embodied, their was a darkness to her style and aesthetic, that really dovetails nicely with her gorgeous voice and over all prettiness. Just go back and check out "We Need A Resolution,"

With all that being said, I look forward to releasing an EP of remixes taking some of the songs mentioned above and really exploring some new ways of approaching Aaliyah's music. 

I came wanting to breath new life into her music and guess what?

Mostly, it was her breathing new life into mine.

Lupe Got a Hit?

I am a 50/50 fan of Lupe Fiasco honestly. Yet an MC with his skill set should have produced more hits.   Am I wrong? This time around with "Bitch Bad" I think he is hitting on something big.  The song knocks and the lyrics don't make you more stupid after listening to them.  Sometimes you want to dumb it down and throw back the Reckless Drink of Choice of a Fine Rum and a Coke.  This makes me really think about what hip hop has done to our people.  Reck Nation rock with me on this one.

I had to write something about this and share with my people.



What do I think?

I think that is so beautiful! In a perfect world everyone would be content with the thought of waiting until marriage to do "Make Love", "Get ya swerve on", "Smush", "Do the do" "Pump it" or "Take a ride on that disco stick".  Yet we don't live in a perfect world.  Instead our world is full of sexual images, sex is extremely easy to access and is a mouse click away.  To deny the urge to engage in sexual intercourse until the age of 30 I want to applaud Lolo Jones an American Olympian.  I'm sure she had all types of offers from men.  Shit I mean if I weren't in a relationship and happy I would holla quick.  She's very attractive, by not only societies standards, yet in general.  She seems like a keeper.

Yet, back to the topic at hand 30 and still having your virginity.  She is using the reasoning she wants to give that gift to her husband.  That's an amazing, inexperienced, probably extremely sexually awkward gift that her future husband will get.  Good for him.  As a man the thought of a "Pure" woman is very much so a turn on and then there is the reverse not a turn on.  I want a woman that knows what she is doing! Still I don't want her to be a professional because then you wonder "How much mileage is on your lady?" As a man we all know we really cannot handle the answer to that if you really love the woman your with.  The thought of another man having sex with your woman that you love even years prior or even after her is aggravating to fathom.

Lolo Jones' back story is very deep, she is the true Olympic Dream. Made in America.

Drake and Breezy WIP Ass in NYC?

Wow, all I suggest is Breezy you might need some stitches brother. Yet his personal security wasn't so fortunate. The funny thing about it I got an invite to the same star studded event that took place at W.I.P which stands for "Work in Progress". Its a celebrity hot spot, which always seems to have the likes of people like myself Devin F. Reckless in attendance as well as the affluent superstars like Rick Ross, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Juelz Santana, Meek Mills, Drake along with a few others. The night started out as it usually does with all the broke yet beautiful women in attendance. Bottle popping galore!! Maybe too much bottle popping which lead to a huge brawl between rival Pop Stars.


This is how it all went down according to "Reliable Sources"! 
The Source who will remain nameless and I've might have dated her in the past when I could afford her will for obvious reasons remain anonymous.  Inside joke! Yet I was in the right place at the right time near the phone to ask and this is what she said Meek Mills and Chris Brown were already at the club when Drake arrived around 3am. A bit later Chris Brown sent a bottle of Champagne to Drake.  Drake sent it back with a note that read "I'm fucking the love of your life, deal with it"..


Reckless Note: I say even if she was or wasn't the love of my life I would punch Drake in the face. But thats just me and I'm just saying.


.... Chris then went to Drake and Drizzy tried to get busy. Threw a punch yet before Chris could do the same, he was struck with a bottle from an entourage member. It didn't stop there, bottle throwing and lots of fighting ensued. Club-goers flooded the streets in an attempt to escape the bloody brawl. A member of Chris’ entourage was covered in blood while a woman who had accompanied Drake was carried away by his security.  At approximately 4am Chris Brown was suddenly rushed out by his entourage and was immediately placed in black jeep fleeing the scene.

With the message talking about "Rich niggas that Hate ETC..."


The Security Guard for Chris Brown was rushed to a near by hospital leaking blood. Our prayers go out to him and his family for a speedy recovery.


Surprisingly some of the people you'd expect or entourages weren't involved in the melee! Rappers Fabolous, Maino, Juelz Santana and Trey Songz, were also spotted fleeing the scene following the outbreak. I was impressed to hear that it was a beef only between Drake, Breezy + Respective Entourages. Yet I hope they aren't fighting over crazy ass Rihanna.  On a lighter note get money brothers yet it looks like there will not be any Drake/Chris Brown collabos in the near future. This means less singing rappers and less rappers singing or vice versa you get the point.

The World Must See This 2-Pac Back.

As I write this article I try to think back to the days when I was in Middle School listening to Biggie & Pac. I really miss those days, yet most of all I am deeply saddened by what the world wouldn't get to experience. Violence and Murder is what they rapped about and that same subject claimed the life of 2 prolific superstars.

So I've been hearing about the 2-Pac performance at Coachella which is a music and arts festival that featured a holographic 2-Pac. Without further delay. Thanks to World Star Hip Hop for allowing us to use their copy.

Vinnie From The Jersey Shore Kicks It Reckless

Mr. Narcisso & Devin F. Reckless of the original Reck Boys kick it with the Jersey Shore's own Vinnie Guadagnino not on the Shore or his home borough of Staten Island. Instead we kicked it in Brooklyn's Steiner Studios at the set of Hip Hop Squares. A new game show put together by MTV2 which I must say is going to be very entertaining. I sat through a few episodes with no problem. Yet I was back stage kicking it with the likes of DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Amber Rose, Method Man & Vinnie. They were all mad cool of course, in 2012 there It was hosted by a true hip hop head Peter Rosenberg from Hot 97's Morning show. The Show is set to air in May!!! Look out for Hip Hop Squares.

I am Trayvon Martin

Honestly the I am Trayvon Martin is an understatement statement for me; its a hardcore reality check. Racism still exist, and scariest thing about it could have been me. My favorite cousins live in that development, they are in the process of moving and I was just out there for a visit about 3 months ago. We have gone into this place where we have nothing better to do except judge and pull each other down. Its like humanity is hoping for the worst, when ever we consider another person we think of them in the worst light. We need to put a higher value on our life and the lives of others outside of our loved ones.

Even within the media there are discrepancies. It still doesn't add up and they think that the world doesn't care.

Reckless will do its absolute best to make Trayvon Martin's story not happen again. We are a diverse group that is stronger because of it. Black, White, Spanish, Blue, Purple it doesn't matter to us we are all HUMAN and this message was approved by Devin F. Reckless.

Underground Artist Emerge March 2012

Crashing Down is the debut video and single for Smooth Kobra's "King of the Jungle" Album. It seems as though most rappers talk about their money or their cars in their first videos yet Kobra isn't about that at all. When we asked him what was his content truly about he responded "I wanted to talk about some real life shit, something that people could feel and relate to. At the same time I wanted to do something unique." This project is definitively that describing vividly of the emotions of a bad trip, or you feel like you can't weather the storm. This is what "Crashing Down" is about. It's supposed to be mysterious, its like a trip into the depths of your own mind. I think it's something people will feel. This is just the beginning of the "King of the Jungle" project which will include a feature from Reckless' own Devin "the Poet". Provided by the "First Lady" Michelle Obama, we have suffered through many middle aged and some senior citizen First Ladies through out the history of the ole USA! Very few have the ability to bring forth change with grace and charm, outside of Hillary Clinton as well as Mrs. Obama has. She shows it once again by making a surprise appearance at a school to promote Wellness and Exercise. I need not say more enjoy this clip because I did.
