D*Cent, a Brooklyn-based
band formed in 2001, combines hip-hop and heavy metal to create a unique genre they call "Ghetto Metal." The creation of this dynamic quartet was the brainchild of D*Cent's guitarist, Groove, who met Dzier, D*Cent's drummer, at work. Groove's brother-in-law, Clavo, became the group's bassist. Almost complete, D*Cent auditioned for a vocalist. They finally found Hangman, the lead singer with a microphone tattoo on his arm. In 2006, after five years of playing in a host of clubs throughout NYC, D*Cent needed a new bassist. Luckily, they found Jay Jay, a bassist who complimented D*Cent's sound perfectly.
Genuine hip-hop and metal fuse together to produce a sound and genre that is unique and authentic. Dzier's masterful drumming showcases astounding hip-hop bass lines that co-exist perfectly with Groove's stunning string riffs while Jay Jay produces mesmerizing bass chords. Finally, Hangman's vocals and lyrics produce a viscerally provocative aesthetic that is dynamic and heartfelt.
D*Cent has appeared on NYC's grittiest rock scenes as well as on the underground hip-hop scene. They have appeared at ACME underground, Rock Star Bar, Crash Mansion, La Kueva, Black National Theatre, Knitting Factory, Brooklyn Music Terminal and the world renoun CBGB's, along with a host of other renowned music scenes.
D*Cent's musical influences range from Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin to The Notorious B.I.G. and the Wu-Tang Clan. Their masterful fusion of hip-hop with metal garners massive fanfare from true hip-hop enthusiasts and heavy metal fans alike. Their unique vision and dynamic sound will ensure their longevity and will get them mentioned in the same breath as music's rock legends and greats.
